Current focus in own school to secure further improvement?

At Fernhurst we are currently working to make accelerated progress with pupils at both ends of the ability spectrum. We have used the AfA Achievement for All) programme to support SEND pupils and have now developed our own in house procedures based on the work done with the AfA consultant. We continue to focus on the more able students to ensure the good pace of progress at key Stage 1 is maintained at Key Stage 2.

Mathematics is our curriculum focus and we are working to ensure that our pupils have opportunities to use concrete equipment to ensure that all pupils have a good understanding of mathematical concepts which will build the expertise and resilience needed to become able mathematicians.

The quality of teaching is very strong at Fernhurst and we develop and maintain this by coaching, mentoring, and maintaining a relationship with local ITT providers this enables staff to be involved in the future development of the profession whilst ensuring wnsuring their own CPD is relevant and up to date.

Particular area(s) of expertise/strength:

I believe the development and management of people is key to school improvement. I feel confident to offer support in restructuring and managing change for improvement for either a new Head Teacher or an established Head wishing to take a new direction within their setting. I have experience in coaching and mentoring which would support this area. My philosophy in working with colleagues is to look for the ‘win/win’ solution which delivers the most effective outcomes.

At Fernhurst we have significant numbers of Pupil Premium children and have developed effective strategies to improve the life chances of these pupils. The ‘closing the gap’ support we have offered has been recognised through our outcome data by the Department for Education.

I am supported by a strong SLT who have expertise in a range of skills including core subjects and assessment. More importantly they are passionate and committed individuals who make up a strong team.
