Sponsorship for Primary Teacher Trainees
Over the past 3 years we have increased recruitment and this year we are training 46 new teachers. Our track record has been outstanding and 100% of our trainees have gained employment in local schools. Recruiting strong candidates into teaching helps address the teacher shortage crisis and supports school improvement.
Across the country applications are down 40% this year compared with this time last year. This is a huge drop and we are looking at innovative ways to encourage and support new recruits.
Secondary ITTs have access to tax free bursaries but that is not available to Primary students. The Portsmouth Education Partnership would like to offer a Primary Scholarship to Portsmouth residents who currently work as a Teaching Assistant in one of our city schools. The trainee could access student finance to pay their £9k training fees and this scholarship would help support their living costs. Our trainees are usually ‘mature’ students and have family commitments/costs to still meet whilst training. It is essential we recruit and retain the highest quality teachers in Portsmouth and supporting this initiative is a positive move to both improving education for our young people and in supporting those training to teach who may otherwise be unable to do so for financial reasons.
Can you help a talented and ambitious student overcome financial difficulties and start their career into teaching? If you feel this matches your community focus and you can make a donation towards the scholarship from as little as £50, then please complete the attached form. I would be more than happy to discuss this further should you wish me to.
