Teaching Assistant wins funds to support teacher training year

Hannah Harman, School Direct trainee teacher at Westover School said she was delighted to have been awarded the first Portsmouth Primary Sponsorship...

The funds were raised by the Portsmouth Teaching School Alliance, the Portsmouth Education Partnership and St Paul’s Catholic School.

Lynn Nicholls, Director of School Direct Initial Teacher Training said “whilst there are bursaries for the majority of secondary training places there is no government bursary for primary teacher training. We knew this was a barrier for some trainees so we instigated the 2k sponsorship and hope to repeat this for the future”.

Mike Stoneman Deputy Director of Children’s Services said

“All candidates were worthy and it was almost an impossible decision, however

Hannah Harman is clearly someone with a lot of passion and innovation. She has worked as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for many years and this is a natural progression from her role as TA”.

The Portsmouth TSA hopes to engage local businesses and raise more funds to support trainee teachers starting in September 19. If you wish to support the sponsorship for 2019-20 then please contact  lynn.nicholls@portsmouthtsa.org
