Grammar As Choice (free stand alone session)
09:00 - 12:15.
Over the last few months, a group of primary, secondary and trainee teachers has taken part in a sustained programme of CPD provided by the Centre for Research in Writing at the University of Exeter and Portsmouth Teaching School Alliance, considering how grammar supports the teaching of reading and writing, and how grammar can be integrated creatively into teaching.
The final day of the programme takes place on 22nd June and we would like to invite primary and secondary colleagues in local schools to join us for the morning session, from 9.00 – 12.15.
This session will:
- illustrate the key features of contextualised grammar teaching
- consider ways of developing meaningful talk about grammar in the classroom, with an emphasis on teacher modelling of writing
- build subject knowledge of grammar, with a focus on the verb group
- consider progression in students’ metalinguistic understanding and how we can support it
Colleagues will be provided with a summary of the previous Grammar as Choice CPD sessions and have access to the PowerPoints used in the training.
This session is free of charge and is open to teachers of all phases and specialisms. It may be especially helpful to mentors of trainees or NQTs.
