Challenge the Gap Conference

Target role: Open to all

09 October 2018 The Marriott Hotel, Portsmouth 8.30am-3pm

Join us on 9th October 2018 at the Marriott Hotel, Portsmouth for our Challenge the Gap Conference.  The Portsmouth Cluster for Challenge the Gap is a whole school improvement programme that builds capacity at all levels with the aim of breaking the link between poverty and poor outcomes for good.  Leaders, teachers and para-professionals have been working together on Challenge the Gap as a Team that becomes a catalyst for change within their schools.

Our conference will be a celebration of our work and a dissemination of our key successes and outcomes across all schools in the project.

Participant schools will be sharing good practice, including interventions and tracking of positive progress made by disadvantaged pupils.

We are delighted to announce that our keynote speaker will be Professor Sonia Blandford, author of ‘Born to Fail? Social Mobility, A Working Class View’ and ‘Achievement for All: Raising Aspirations, Access and Achievement’.

Professor Sonia Blandford is one of the country’s foremost experts on social mobility.

Sonia is visiting professor of education at UCL Institute of Education and has held leadership positions in schools, higher education and charities including Director of Research and Leadership at Teach First, Professor of Educational Leadership and Innovation at the University of Warwick, where she now holds an honorary professorship and pro-vice chancellor and dean of education at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Sonia was named in Debrett’s list of the Top 500 Most Influential People in the UK in 2015 and 2016 and was among the 2016 Women of the Year. Sonia is editor of the Teaching Times Every Child journal and author of 250 articles and books written for teachers, leaders, parents and carers, and children and young people.
