10 February 2020 (SOLD OUT) 13:00 - 15:00

Inference training aims to help all pupils to improve their understanding and enjoyment in reading. However, it focusses particularly on the 10% of pupils in KS1-3 who decode adequately but fail to get full meaning and enjoyment from their reading.

The training includes professional development which helps schools explore ways of improving comprehension and enjoyment in reading and boosts adults’ expertise of literacy teaching.

Adults in school are generally expert readers, who use comprehension strategies so automatically that they are often unaware of how they actually do this. It is therefore often hard for staff to understand the difficulties some pupils experience. The training aims to improve adult awareness of the challenges some readers face across the curriculum, so that adults feel better equipped to help.

Training is provided by Rebecca Shore (ECAR Adviser):

  • Reading Recovery accreditation via the International Literacy Centre (Institute of Education/ University College London)
  • Every Child a Reader consultancy and literacy training including INSET sessions, short literacy intervention courses and support bespoke to the needs of your school.

Rebecca is an expert in literacy learning and literacy difficulties with 10 years of experience as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader and ECAR Adviser with a MA in Literacy Learning and Literacy Difficulties (2011).
